Description
JIMMY DEUCHAR Selection (Unique One-Off 1958 UK One-Sidedr
Test Pressing for Side A only [4 tracks] of therimpossibly rare mono LP titled ‘Pal Jimmy’ on Tempo Records, rpart of Tempo’s sought after Modern Jazz Series. Contains thertracks’My Funny Valentine’, ‘I Didn’t Know What Time It Was’,r’Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered’ & ‘I Could Write A Book’rrecorded in London, England on March 7, 1958 with JimmyrDeuchar on trumpet, Tubby Hayes on tenor & baritone sax, HarryrSouth onpiano, Kenny Napper on bass & Phil Seamen on drums.rAlthough Side B is lost to the mists of time & not included here, rit’s worth noting that those particular B-side tracks wererrecorded during an earlier Sextet date & did not star TubbyrHayes [Rodgers & Hart musical covers from Pal Joey, lending theralbum it’s ‘Pal Jimmy’ title]. What you have here is the veryrsought after Hard Bop side in its earliest test pressing form. Therfactory label is custom printed with ‘Not For Sale’ text & stampedrone side with the matrix, catalogue number & earliest ‘Selectionr- Jimmy Deuchar’ suggested title – a wonderful find for therBritish Jazz historian & collector. Housed in a plain die-cut sleeve, rthe ‘VMGT 1 329-2E’ matrix number is stamped in the run-out ofrthe vinyl. Best heard on its intended mono playback setting, therheavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned & is strictlyrgraded VG+ with several light paper hairlines & the odd faintrscuff which has little effect on play other than the occasionalrbackground surface on occasion, with no jumps or sticks. Arunique one-off discovery TAP20)
